On February 4, 2019 we will enter a New Moon phase in the zodiac sign of Aquarius. This moon follows the powerful Full Moon Lunar Eclipse that occurred at the end of January in Aquarius’ opposite sign, Leo.

Aquarius is an air sign. They tend to be a little rebellious and like to go against the accepted norm. She is very caring and humanitarian. Aquas also tend to be drawn to the mystical and esoteric. She likes attention and the spotlight, much like their opposite, Leo. She also can be bored easily and tends to be a little restless.

Leo is a sign about the individual. Aquarius is a sign about community, society, and the collective. There will be a focus on who we surround ourselves with, how we connect to others, what community looks like to us and how we can connect with our community.

There will also be an aspect to Mercury in this moon, who rules communication.  Communications will be another theme of this moon. You may want to consider your communication style and how this is hindering or assisting you towards your goals.

Mercury will have a sextile to Jupiter during this moon phase creating fertile ground for important conversations and positivity. It may feel easier to express yourself and have a sense of being understood. This may be a good time to speak out on a topic or issue that concerns you or ways to better your community.

Saturn will create a sextile to Neptune bringing a focus on hard work towards material gain and deepening spirituality.  This could be a time of a renewed mediation practice or starting one. Maybe you feel a pull towards joining a specific faith or life philosophy.

New Moons represent beginnings and planting new seeds. During this moon, it is a good time to enter new partnerships and begin a new phase of deepening budding connections. This moon phase may be a time you make important decisions about who you surround yourself with and whether those connections are in alignment with your future and values as an individual.

January 25th marks the 35th day the federal government has been “shut down.” The reasons behind the shutdown and why it happened in the first place –The SAGA to MAGA.

This is the longest government shutdown in history, aside from the 1995 shutdown of 21 days.  The effects of a government shutdown are immediate, but as more and more time passes, the effects are more and more noticeable to all Americans, not just federal employees missing their paychecks.

As if putting any working American in a position of involuntary servitude is not bad enough (800,000 being effected) a slew of government agencies and programs have had to scale back employees or close up shop due to the shutdown.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has stopped most of its operations, affecting all forms of broadcasting. The Securities and Exchange Commission is currently running on a skeleton crew.  This affects the stock market, which is a major part of our economy.  Investigations into securities violations are being impeded due to short staffing, leaving the door open for predatory practices.

The Environmental Protection Agency, who is tasked with governing the air we breath, is only open to address major health threats and disasters.  The Department of Agriculture has had to close agencies across the country tasked with helping America’s farmers at the county level. America’s farmers are already feeling squeezed due to Chinese tariffs. There are many other government agencies that have had to scale back workers or close due to the shutdown.  Also, many museums and federally funded art galleries have had to close-including the Smithsonian.

Airports around the country have had to limit service due to TSA workers opting out of working for free. If the shutdown continues, Federal Courts may lose funding and will have to postpone adjudication of part of their caseload.  Immigration hearings have been cancelled in mass since the shutdown began-upwards of 42,000.

A government without funding, cannot continue to function. 38 million people are looking at losing food stamps if the shutdown continues into February. Many rental assistance programs expire in February-over 2 million low-income families will cease to get rental assistance for March and beyond. WIC, a federally funded food assistance program, is only funded through January-affecting as many as 7 million low-income pregnant women if the shutdown continues.

Until the federal government agrees on a budget, the situation will continue to worsen. Shutdowns often cost the government heavily-not just in closing agencies and services. The 16 day shutdown of 2013 cost the federal government over $2 billion in lowered gross domestic product (GDP) and less productivity. Not to mention, lowered confidence by Americans in the federal government is often a direct result of shutdowns- less spending and investments.

The shutdown would have to continue to September to have more severe effects, as many government agencies are funded until then, but let’s hope Congress can agree before it gets even close to that benchmark.

Coming through on an outrageous campaign promise seems way more important to MAGA followers than millions’ ability to eat and have a place to sleep. President Trump has promised to make sure we all get our tax refunds even without a funded government- so there’s that. Too bad the IRS isn’t going to be staffed well enough to be able to field consumer questions or issues.

Be mindful with your words and decisions this weekend. Emotions are running high. Tense situations may present themselves. Now is a time to speak up and express your truth. Embark on a new passion. The world is ready to listen. Your feelings of lack are self imposed. The illusion that are you not capable of this dream are from your own mind.
Temperance: Middle Path. Meditation.
Page of Wands: New Beginning. Excitement.
The Moon: Illusion. Subsconcious.
5 of Pentacles: Lack or Poverty Consciousness.
Knight of Wands: Quick energy. Reckless and Rash action.

On January 21st we will enter a Full Moon phase in the zodiac sign of Leo.  This month’s Full Moon is especially significant as it coincides a full lunar eclipse.  Also, due to the proximity of the earth to the moon during this moon phase, the moon will appear red in color-a blood moon.  Other aspects to this moon, including Uranus, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter, will give this moon a powerful punch.

Full Moons are about culminations and reaping the fruits of our labor. With the eclipse happening alongside this moon phase, there will be a focus on intimate relationships and partnerships.  You may feel more emotional and sentimental than normal. It may seem like there is no reason to be sad, yet you feel a touch of the blues. Also, eclipses are known for removing people, places, and things out of our lives. Typically this change is sudden and without warning.  Sometimes connections that are waning fully fall away during an eclipse.  Conflict can arise that will lead to a dissolution of a connection as well.

Leo represents the individual.  Leo is a leader and charismatic. He is represented by the lion in the zodiac and has a persistent spirit. Leo enjoys the limelight and tends to stand out. Leo can be a bit jealous and possessive and have a defined sense of self. Leos are the most egoic of the zodiac.

The sun will have just entered the opposite sign of Leo, Aquarius, when the Full Moon phase begins. Aquarius is about the collective, about society.  Aquarius is more focused on groups and social connections. Aquarius also tends to be a bit rebellious and is about testing the established norm.

There will be a focus on your role as an individual and how your individual role adds to the collective and your greater purpose this moon. Uranus’ aspect will play on this polarity that Leo and Aquarius will create.  Uranus will beg the question-Who are you? It’s time to take off your mask. There will be a focus on self authenticity and living within your truth, and what is in alignment with your values. If you have been living in disalignment with who you are, those things will likely fall away or be highlighted.  People that are no longer in alignment with you, could likely fall away.

Now with Mercury being in the mix, communication will be a focus. There will be a focus on interrelatedness and how you communicate with those around you.  Are you deepening your bonds or pushing people away with your relationship style?

You may also be focused on home and what home means to you.  This can be who, what, where feels like home. You may want to re-decorate or pick up and move. With Venus hanging around there will be focus on aesthetic as well when it comes to the home.

During this period, Jupiter and Venus will be meeting in the sky.  This is an incredibly fertile time. If you are trying to conceive, this could be the lucky month.  If you are not wanting to conceive, you may want to be extra careful. This can also be a keen time for romance. This may be a good time to get out there and mingle if you’re single. If partnered, you may feel a deepening bond.

The blood moon will be most visible in North America and parts of Western Europe and Africa. The energy around the moon will start Friday the 18th and probably peek on Tuesday the 22nd. People can act strangely during eclipses. There can be an intensity among people and people may be extra sensitive. Be mindful of your interactions and not to take things too seriously.
